The judging panel
has selected 40 recipients from the list of nominees that embody the region's
entrepreneurial spirit and business acumen, while at the same time giving
something back to the community.
All nominations were
assessed using a 40point system, with a maximum of 20 points for professional
accomplishments, 10 points for professional recognition and 10 points
for community and charitable involvement.
The judging panel
included OBJ publisher Michael Curran and OBJ editor
Leo Valiquette and three guest judges that are to be congratulated for
their efforts: Stephen Daze, director of OCRI's Entrepreneurship Centre;
Robin McIntyre, Rogers Cable's vice-president and general manager for
Ottawa; and Cellwand president Nick Quain.
This year's recipients
hail from a variety of fields, including a martial arts instructor, a
restaurateur, a dive shop owner, a hotel manager, a contractor specializing
in luxury home renovations and a television producer. Needless to say,
professional services firms and the high tech sector are also well represented
on the list.
The 2004 Forty Under
40 recipients will be feted at a gala reception June 20 at the Ottawa
Congress Centre. Profiles of the recipients will be published in the June
20 issue of the Ottawa Business Journal. For ticket information, call
Sue. Perry at 744-4800, ext. 425 or e-mail sue.perry@transcontinental.ca
