CUSTOM BATHROOM

custom_bathroomNick named, The Hillside Home, the master bedroom, ensuite and Walk-through closet, are located on the top floor of a stunning home which cuts into the side face of a hill.  As the master bath faces an organic back terrace, surrounded by nature, the design ideology was clear.   Create a space where form and function are one and whereby the form is determined by nature and that the selection of interior finishes are also nature driven.

The windows were specifically designed to work with the interior design of this space… A pedestal tub majestically sits directly in front of a three foot wide, full height, window allowing for a serene, nature driven, bathing experience.  A small marble shelf, adjacent to the tub allows for the addition of candles and beautiful plants, adding greenery and tranquility to the already serene, ambiance.

Clerestory windows across the top of the vanity, combined with the long vertical window, create strong architectural lines while allowing for form and function to flow together.  The vanity, made of natural anigre, float above the limestone tile floor.  Natural, and neutral finishes throughout create a calming backdrop to the nature of the outdoors.  Small natural stone, mosaic, listello tile flow up the shower walls and onto the ceiling. The sculptural, teak bench moves between the shower/steam shower and the make up area.

A unique detail in this space is the privacy carved away and created for the toilet tucked away behind a shoji screen inspired wall. The mullion of the ‘shoji screen’ is specifically located to also act as a door stop for the custom made, pocket door.  The selection of Anigree, quarter cut Mahogony and textured glass for this detail, anchors the corner and brings natural light into the closet area.

A portion of the partition between the closet and ensuite was widened to allow for a floating custom tall cabinet that slides into the opening.  The anigre doors, offset to mimic the asymmetry of the ‘Shoji Screen’ are framed in Mahogony.  The back side of this unit, also framed in Mahogony, acts as a mirror, in the custom designed closet/dressing room – also made of natural anigre.

A space where….Form – Function – Nature…. Become one.
